DAWN RICHARD

Singer/Songwriter/Producer

BIOGRAPHY

Dawn Angelique Richard is a singer, songwriter, producer and dancer member of the musical group Danity Kane. This multi-talented, Creole/Haitian beauty was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was there that she crafted her profession, performing at events such as the Louisiana Jazz and Heritage Festival, New Orleans Black Heritage Festival, American Teen Beauty contest in Orange County, and California. During her rise in the music and entertainment business, she worked as an NBA dancer for the New Orleans Hornets, while attending the University of New Orleans. She also performed with a local New Orleans group, called "Realiti" before following her instincts and going solo under the name "Dawn Angelique". With the help of her family and friends, she released a solo album called "Been Awhile," which gave her an opportunity to open for Anthony Hamilton and a chance to take the music and entertainment business by storm.

Her big break came in 2005, when Dawn auditioned for the MTV show, Making the Band 3 in Orlando, where she was chosen to compete for a spot in Diddy’s future girl group. She beat out numerous contestants and secured herself a spot in Diddy’s new group along with Aubrey O’Day, Aundrea, Wanita "D Woods" Woodgette, and Shannon Bex. The idea for the name of the group came from one of Dawn’s drawings. Her manga-styled female superhero caught the attention of Diddy and gained his attention for the approval for the naming of the group, Danity Kane.

Danity Kane gave Dawn the opportunity to collaborate with various producers such as Timbaland, Brian Michael Cox, Rodney Jerkins, Scott Storch, Jim Johnson and a few others. Danity Kane was also invited to join Christina Aguilera in her North American tour, Back to Basics in 2007.

Since 2006, the group has released two albums, a self-entitled album, "Danity Kane", and "Welcome to the Dollhouse", in the most recent album "Welcome to the Dollhouse", Dawn was able to fully tap into her creative side by co-writing 5 of the 15 tracks on the album. The album introduced the world to the true essence of Dawn Richard and Danity Kane.
